Is your partner over-possessive?
When you’re in a relationship everyone likes to feel loved and wanted by their partner. But often the ‘love’ tends to get a bit suffocating and you may not realise but your partner may be overly possessive of you.
While you can talk it out and tell him/her there’s nothing to worry about, often the possessiveness can take an ugly turn. Here are some common signs-
- While in the beginning of a relationship, there’s a possibility that you will want to be in constant touch with your special someone, there should be a line drawn as well.

If your lover calls every hour or two and constantly wants to know where you are, it means he/she is possessive.
- Everyone is entitled to choose their own friends. Watch out if your guy/girl starts asking you to eliminate contact with someone of the opposite sex. At first, he/she might claim to have found out something negative about your friend. Later you will realise a pattern.
- As a couple you don’t have to share everything with your partner. If he/she asks for things like your email or facebook password or likes to check your mobile phone for messages or calls, you must say no. If your lover can’t trust you then there’s no point.
- Very often boyfriends/girlfriends find ways to control their partner. Try and make you are not dependant on him/her for things like money. It’s always good to be financially independent.

- Getting some alone time with your friends and away from your partner makes for a healthy relationship. If he/she starts ‘popping’ up wherever you are or claims to be in the neighbourhood every time you’re out with friends, he/she can be keeping tabs on you.
- Has your lover started dictating terms to you? If he/she constantly tells you what to do and what not to, it’s a sign to get out of the relationship. Your partner can have an opinion but you don’t have to listen to it.
- Sometimes your lover can start a fight with you for no apparent reason. And if it involves spending time with a member of the opposite sex then it means he/she is very jealous. This could be a sign of things to come.
- No one likes to be checked up on. If you don’t pick up your partner’s phone call does he/she call up your mother or best friend to find out where you are? This means he/she is possessive of you.
- Very often women tend to find their boyfriends start to dictate what they should wear or by what time they should come home. A classic sign.
- A partner who doesn’t let his/her significant other hug or kiss anyone else can have lots of deep seated issues.
